Evaluation Question 7: Looking back at the preliminry task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to a full product?

When looking back at my preminary task of making my college magazine  I have gained a lot of skills and techniques that enabled me to make a music magazine that looks professional by following coventions. My college magazine does not have a bold and catchy masthead whereas my music magazine has a bold and complementary mastheasd. In my college magazine the coverlines are not in a structured order which makes it look very basic and immature, however my music magazine has structured coverlines that are complementary to the genre of my magazine, which is the reason I choose to use a graffiti styled writing. My target audience is also quite clear from my music magazine, however you can distinctively  tell what type of message my music magazine is trying to convey and the way it represents and  try to attract its audience. Whereas with my college magazine is only clear that it is about college because of the title ‘College’s The Key!’. The picture is also of a teenager holding a psychology book, the main photograph of my college magazne is not so professional however it does capture the essence of college with all the greeness around her. However with my music magazine I was able to use brightness and contrast to manipulate my picture making it stand out and shine. My college magazine does not have a date or issue number whereas my music magazine does. When looking at the contents page the format for my college magazine is very different  from my music magazine, while doing my college magazine I did not have any knowledge of how contents pages are made to fit conventions however after my college magazine I did some research and looked at some contents pages of other magazines and incorparated my new knowledge gained in my music magazine contents page, the main difference between the two magazines is the layout, in my college magazine the contents page numbers are all in one line with a background picture that slightly clashes with the page numbers. Whereas my music magazine is structued in boxframes, there are 4 boxes making an ‘L’ shape on ther right hand side of the page that include page numbers and captions underneath all of them and then there are 3 pictures also in box frames; a slightly big piccture at the top with two smaller ones at the bottom. All the pictures have page numbers on them. By following conventions for a college magazine I was able to make my contents page look like a magazine contents page instead of a CD tracklist. Overall I think my music magazine looks more professional than my college magazine and this would be due to following conventions and adding my own style to the magazine. My music magazine is very eyecathing and unique with the colours I choose to use. I think my target audience would be very attrcated to my music magazie rather than the target audience for my college magazine, one reason is the fact that I did a questionnaire for my music magazine and conducted it on my target audience to see exactly what they are in to and what they would like to see in the magazine so I included all their feedback and incorported it into my music magazine meaning it will fit my target audiences’ preferences, however I did not do so for my college magazine so I was clueless on what my target audience would be into, so I just included basic knowledge of events and activities college people in general may be into.
